The SoulProsper Media Group would like to take this opportunity to congratulate "The Queen of the Hammond B-3". Mrs. Elbernita "Twinkie" Clark-Terrell for her induction into the Hammond Organ USA Hall of Fame. The name Twinkie Clark is synonymous with the gospel organ. She is a modern day Beethoven and continues to captured the affection of audiences worldwide. It should be noted that Twinkie Clark is the ONLY inductee recognized solely for her contributions to gospel music! Billy Preston was also inducted(rightfully so) but was recognized for his work in gospel music (James Cleveland, Billy Preston), Soul/R&B (Ray Charles,Billy Preston), Jazz(Nat King Cole, Billy Preston) and Rock&Roll (The Beatles). "Twinkie" stood out in a nomination class that consisted of newcomers and organists that shaped the gospel sound. Her induction into this inaugural class should come as no surprise and further deepens her legacy in gospel music. While speaking to her late last year, Dr. Clark told me that she drew upon a number of styles to shape her own sound. All of those elements come through in her playing. Most famously drawing from Stevie Wonder's "Master Blaster" to create her 1981 smash "You Brought the Sunshine" recorded with her sisters. Dr. Clark drew from gospel, jazz and even classical pianists ahead of her. Transforming the organ into a solo instrument, she accompanies herself performing church anthems with skill and dexterity rivaling the greatest composers of the Baroque period. When asked what her favorite anthem is, she replied "A Mighty Fortress is Our God." View the gallery of 2013 Hammond Organ USA Gospel nomineesDr. Clark's combination of all these styles is nothing short of divine intervention. When explaining her varied influences, she intimated that it is the Holy Spirit that gives direction concerning which elements to employ at various times. Nothing is more important than the flow of the worship service and Dr. Clark remains a staple and go to musician for the National/International COGIC conventions and meetings. Ever a student of music at large, Dr. Clark has influenced generations of musicians and continues to do so well into the 21st century. This honor of the Hammond Organ USA Hall of Fame is another 'feather in the cap' of this gospel music legend. She of course attributes her success to the work ethic instilled by her mother; the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, a work ethic still evident in her career today. Along with this achievement, Twinkie Clark is in the middle of promoting her latest live project with nephew Larry Clark. Telling her story of a turnaround, her first single from the project: "God Gave Me Favor" is still doing well in radio. Listen to Twinkie Clark live on SoulProsper Radio!Congratulations are again in order for Dr. "Twinkie" Clark on her induction into the inaugural class of Hammond Organ USA's Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at NAMM in California later this month.
BEN TANKARD'S THICKER THAN WATER Is Highest Rated Freshman Show Of All Time For NBC/Bravo TV!1/3/2014 For the third consecutive week, Sunday’s 9pm airing of THICKER THAN WATER drew over 2 Million viewers and with next Sunday’s finale set to air. Thicker Than Water’s season-to-date average viewership is closing in as the highest rated non-franchise/non spin-off freshman season of any show on Bravo TV. The Tankard’s stats are double of that of any previous freshman reality show on Bravo and have surpassed the best ratings for faith-based shows like Mary Mary (We TV), Preachers of L.A. (Oxygen) and The Sheards (BET). The show premiered November 10, 2013 and has received many fans and of course many critics. Critics have much to say about The Tankard’s controversial topics of money, sibling rivalries, sex and lavish cars and jets. But The Tankards successful show ratings has the naysayers pondering on their opinions.
Self-dubbed “The Black Brady Bunch”, the series follows The Tankards as they try to balance busy careers while managing their large blended family of five grown children, two daughter-in-laws, and a grandchild. Ben Tankard is a multi-tasking millionaire, Grammynominated Jazz/Gospel recording artist and record label CEO, NBA motivational speaker, aircraft owner/pilot, book author, and Big and Tall clothing line owner. His beautiful wifeJewel is a successful financial planner/network marketer and finance column writer. They both juggle careers and family while serving as non-salaried volunteer Pastors of The Destiny Center Church near Nashville TN. The season finale of Thicker Than Water will air Sunday Jan 5, 2014 at a special time of10PM EST/9PM CST. This episode promises to be a beautiful moment with Benji and Shanira’s wedding day, but will have a surprise with Brooklyn’s unplanned speech and the lingering issues with Jewel and her sister. Will this overshadow the big day? Tune in and find out! “For some, church has become a ritualistic activity that yields no fruit because so many of us have learned how to do church and create a church experience. WE need a true experience with God not a man-made experience. His glory is what we need." Majestic. Voice of an Angel. Powerful. Awe-Inspiring. All words that have been used by many to describe the ministry and voice of 24 year old preacher, singer, songwriter and producer Cortney Richardson. If you spend just a few moments with Cortney, you will see that he is undoubtedly a WEAPON OF MASS INSPIRATION. A native Memphian, University of Memphis graduate, entrepreneur and licensed minister, Richardson has inspired many through his strong leadership qualities and character. Richardson’s ministry influence is tangible on the college campus, his local church, community organizations, and as the youngest member of the Ben Hooks Institute Board. Childhood yielded the discovery of his passion for singing. He has since traveled the world singing the Lord’s song, even in strange lands. In December 2007, Richardson was part of a 7 City European Tour and has since become an integral part of the New York based Glory Gospel Singers under the leadership of Phyliss McKoy-Joubert. As part of “Junigatsu” 2012 & 2013, Richardson traveled with the Glory Gospel Singers on a 21 concert Japan Tour. There he ministered as part of the enthralling Glory Gospel Tenors. This inimitable trio captivated audiences across the island of Japan. His remarkable voice can be heard on the Glory Gospel Singers’ “Manhattan Kiss” release, featuring the music of Mariya Takeuchi. In addition to “Manhattan Kiss”, Richardson was part of an acapella GGS ensemble that recorded “White Christmas”, a worldwide top seller for the GGS franchise. His gift quickly made room for him, as he took the helm of a total of five songs on the two projects. Richardson, a new comer no longer quickly became a crowd favorite with his three octave range. Richardson’s recently released EP features 3 songs and a worship reprise. His passion for worship is reflected in his very own masterpiece, “In This Place”. Also the title track, “In This Place” expresses his sincere desire for God’s glory to be revealed in His people. You’ll also hear “The Corinthian Song” written by V. Michael McKay. Richardson’s rendition stands worlds apart from previously recorded versions by Kathy Taylor and Micah Stampley. McKay says of Richardson “He can record anything that comes from my pen.” Look for more collaborations from the two, soon. The blistering opener to the EP, “Famous” was penned by Grammy nominated composer James Wilson. Of it Richardson says: "This song speaks of my passion which is to make the name of JESUS famous, that’s what I was created for”. Whether in state of the art auditoriums, the National Civil Rights Museum, The Peabody Hotel, venues domestically and internationally, or the local church, this mighty minstrel sings as an inspired worshipper. He is the man of Psalm 1; a man of integrity and action that believes “the place of comfort is the place of paralysed potential.” To connect with him, find him on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, & Social Cam @CortneyInspires. Image is important. People are looking for a finished product. None of us are perfect but if you want people to take you seriously, you should at least give the appearance that you first take yourself and the call and responsibility seriously! It's not hard at all. Just have a look at what people are wearing. Like fashion lenses but don't need glasses? Check out what people are wearing on the red carpet. Need to smooth out your interviews? Watch intelligent people do interviews. Study them so you get used to the questions. Most importantly, polish your product. Consumers will NOT come to more than one debut! After you arrive on the scene, you're either working to stay there or get pushed out of the way for other, new acts. It all works together, as the song says: "fools rush in". Polish your product, and polish yourself. You'll be glad you did. Need a headshot? Go to Portrait Innovations ($65) or find a private photographer to do a headshot. Get permission to use it and use the SAME shot on your cards and web presence. Consistency is a small part that plays a huge deal. Try and discover your brand. If you're plus sized, that can be your brand. Remember Big Luther's (Vandross) music? Yep. Bishop Rance Allen? Ruben Studdard...it all works, when you work it right. If you're in the weight loss process, dress accordingly and plan pictures around your goal weight. If you're not there yet, shoot from the neck up if you must do promo pics, etc. The more complete you seem to be, the more people will pay attention to you and ultimately pay for your product, whatever it is! Of course all angles and issues weren't covered here, but stay tuned. SMG has partnered with top tier image consultants to help artists and readers improve their public image. Thank you for reading!
