Live It Up! is a program of the American Diabetes Association’s North Texas office that was created to empower women in efforts to adopt positive health behaviors that will benefit the entire family and lead to a better reduction in overweight, obesity and related health issues. The SOLD-OUT tea was held at Belo Mansion Pavilion, and included presentations about the developmental research of diabetes in efforts supported by the American Diabetes Association.
The tea, sponsored by Southwest Securities, included a keynote address by Dr. Cynthia D. Davis, the District Superintendent of McKendree District of the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church, motivational speakers, health exhibits, vendors, a fashion show, auction and “Hattitude Contest”. Undoubtedly, participants left enthused and eager to make a change in the world around them, starting at home.
The Live It Up! Tea was a smashing success and brought women of all backgrounds and professional careers together. Event chairwoman Ericka Moultry began the event with an address that included the recent history of diabetes in her family. Both her father and brother are facing the debilitating disease with plans to conquer the effects of renal failure due to the disease.
From the opening address to the keynote address, the event empowered all the women present and challenged them to "Make It Happen" in their and their families' lives. Ms. Anita Wilson was on hand to perform a set from her award winning debut album "Worship Soul" as the tea's special guest. On hand with her was the album's producer and her musical director Rick Robinson.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Cynthia D. Davis, District Superintendent of McKendree District of the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church. Dr. Davis spoke from the familiar text found in Romans 8 that names believers as conquerors.
In Dr. Davis' address, she let the women know that they are more than conquerors and can overcome every obstacle in their lives, including the threat of diabetes. After the stirring message, attendees were treated to a fashion show and at the conclusion of the event, the famous "Hattitude" contest.
