The One Love Gospel Cruise had a special treat aboard this year. Earnest Pugh recorded his newest released as a part of the annual gospel cruise and retreat. W.I.N. (Worship in Nassau) Experience was recorded live in Nassau, Bahamas and already in the first week is a proven winner!
The cd/dvd project is Pugh’s third major release and is produced by Grammy award winning producer and music director Chester Thompson. The list of huge industry names is impressive to say the least. Pugh recounts Hughes’ decision to allow the recording to pair with his already scheduled appearance aboard the One Love Gospel Cruise “Radio One has always been supportive of my ministry so we got on the phone (at Keith Williams’ suggestion) and they allowed it to be a part of their cruise. The favor of God is incredible!” The recording marks Pugh’s 20/15 milestone (20 years in ministry, 15 in the industry).
Pugh’s concert and recording in Nassau has translated to one of the hottest gospel projects on the market. Released this past Tuesday, you can expect to hear much more of this music for a very long time! The guest artists all blend in well with the heart of the recording and Vincent Tharpe & Kenosis rose to the challenge of covering a wide spectrum of styles on this project.
Hello Sunday Morning
The entire album is church friendly! For musicians, the arrangements are playable (whew, those horns) and for singers, the harmonies are singable...well, except for Pugh’s five octave range! Only one name comes to mind listening to Pugh close out “More of You” operatic soprano riffs…Lecresia Campbell! I’m not really sure there’s another voice in America who can match Pugh’s rafter rifting soprano range!
Lines like: “...everything I need everything I want is here; everything I need everything I want is near…” from “In Your Presence” show listeners the heart of the self-proclaimed worshipper. Pugh says of this project that he wants “listeners to focus on the “BIG-ness” of God. Draw night unto Him and He’ll draw nigh unto you. When God comes into your situation, He doesn’t just come in, He comes to take over!”
For My Friend…
One special thing brought to this recording was the tribute to the late choirmaster O’Landa Draper that consisted of stirring hits from the director and The Associates:
"He Touched Me", "God Has it All in Control" (Angel Bigelow), "Stand Up for Right" (LeJeune Thompson),My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord (Vincent Tharpe & Kenosis), and Pastor Shirley Caesar closes out the medley strong with "I’ll Never Stop Praising Him".
The songs flow seamlessly and segue with themes of praise and worship. This is one worship experience you just don’t want to end! The recording included a captive audience of native Bahamians, tourists, gospel artists and fellow shipmates, and a string of recording and entertainment industry executives.
You will not be disappointed with this project. This project like Pugh’s two other national releases are sure to set the bar for urban inspirational music. The entire album is Sunday morning friendly and songs like “Everybody Lift Him” and his treatment of “Oh Lord We Praise You” are sure to get worshippers on their feet all over America. The W.I.N. Experience is a gospel gold and a real “WIN”ner for sure! The project is available everywhere, get your copy today!
