In October 2012 the Lord spoke to Fred Willis about starting a show. The show was to be about current Christian topics and feature independent music. Without a budget for a normal internet show Fred put plans for the show on hold. A dejected Fred sat and wondered about how to make the show happen. It was not until he heard the voice of God that he began to move. Armed with an arsenal of sound engineering expertise and a burgeoning journalism career, Fred began SoulProsper Radio.
Coupled with Fred’s examiner column, AXS.com column, SP Radio, and SoulProsper Music all became one entity, SoulProsper Media Group. This venture includes writing, publishing, and production. What you see today is a more developed idea of the media venture that SMG truly is.
The Lord spoke to Fred and told him “you have everything you need to do what you're trying to do.” Fred began looking and listening to other shows and the earliest format of the show was Christian talk radio. Fred’s first show covered the 2012 election and all of the current events surrounding it. Fred used his newfound platform to encourage listeners and encouraged them to vote issues and not squabble or fight with each other. On the first show Fred featured his wife and her sisters’ music (the group is named Harmony.)
Fred’s music library quickly grew as friends and strangers alike agreed to allow him to play their music on the show. As a neophyte program director, Fred used his newfound music library to include music that coincided with topics on each show. With each new topic and show the listening audience increased. The show was hosted on 3john2music.com and continued there until the beginning of January 2013.
From there, Fred decided to again changed the format of his show and made the show a downloadable podcast. From there the show grew and the listening audience increased again. The podcast was very competitive and remained high in the ranks with other professional podcasts. It was not until a Facebook conversation with Fred Stewart of Stewart Communications that SoulProsper Radio begin to take off.
This fateful conversation with Fred Stewart changed his outlook on internet radio ministry. Stewart advised Fred to jump in to what he was doing, though Fred resisted, saying that he didn’t want to compete with Stewart and The Independent Showcase. With Stewart’s encouragement Fred again changed the format of the show. What you now see and hear on SoulProsper Radio was developed by the braintrust combined by Fred Willis and Fred Stewart.
As the saying goes…two Freds are better than one! Drawing inspiration from Stewart’s “The Independent Showcase” and the “Connected2Calvary” cd sampler collection, Fred begin to seek out other independent artists the world over. From the beginning, shows featured the music of Chester DT Baldwin and The Walls Group just to name a few. One claim to fame the show enjoys is featuring unknown gospel artists whose initial radio play (terrestrial/internet) is on SoulProsper Radio. One such artist is Dionne Renae.
